Well, things are looking up around here. Via G3 scout Eric, via Arbor Update, who was tipped off by Homeless Dave, it looks like the Jefferson Market was purchased by a couple from Saline and is set to reopen in April 2008. I’m particularly excited that they will have some of the old Jeff items on offer. Not much new to report at the moment, but this is a post I’ve been hoping to write for a long time.

If you want to add one more link to the chain, you could include John Weise, who I follow on Twitter and who noted the sign in a Tweet this morning, which led me to actually head over to JM to see it for myself, and was fortunate to meet Tom, who was just coming out of the door. He provided the basic background.
More via the A2 News…

One piece of news… They’ll be closed on Sundays. Too bad. I guess I’ll have to continue to venture farther afield to get my Sunday paper and coffee.
HD — John Weise, you say? That link in the chain creates a bit of a circle, since John and I happen to work together AND he has sold a slew of books for me through his fine business, Books by Chance.
Eric — thanks for feeding us more news as this important story develops.
The piece in the AA News mentions that the new owner, Mary Rasmussen, will solicit customer feedback with a suggestion box at the new store. How about we get things rolling here? What items are you hoping to see at the Jefferson Market and Cakery? I’d like chocolate covered macaroons, Elaine’s bagels, the Sunday New York Times, and espresso drinks.
Oh, the fries please. Please.
And good eggs and Calder Dairy milk.
This is FANTASTIC news!
Way to go Mary and good luck to you!!
My request? Everything Bagels!
WOOHOO!
Hi Shana,
Is there a good day in the near future to hang out with the G3?
Best,
Kyle
Some kind of homemade bread for me, please. With Calder Dairy butter and Guernsey Farms ice cream! Yum!!
I almost cried with happiness when I saw this on mlive this afternoon. I’m hoping for the return of the ultimate comfort food meal- macaroni and cheese, and chocolate pudding.
Calder dairy milk and especially their eggnog at Christmas time! I’m so excited the Jeff is reopening!
It’s great finding this blog. I have a mixed blog, but cooking and food are definitely part of it, and I just found you through google reader. I’m also Ann Arbor-based.

My current post is a political rant, however, so you might want to wait a day or two, lol. I don’t usually do things like that.
Chocolate eclaires for me and the new york times.
I took advantage of proximity to plug shamelessly for pop tarts, cheez whiz, and marshmallows, to no avail: http://www.homelessdave.com/tt20080311maryrasmussen.htm

Mary’s cakes are AWESOME. I recently did some wedding cake tastings around A2 and Mary’s were the best! They even surpassed Zingerman’s! The original cake business is called “Bake Shop Wedding Cakes” (http://www.bakeshopweddingcakes.com/index.html), but the new Jefferson Market & Cakery can be found online at: http://jeffersonmarketandcakery.com/cakery/about.html
This is a great addition to the Old West Side!
