We’re three women who share a passion for the aesthetic and intellectual pleasures of food. We share some other things too. We all have an appreciation of Ann Arbor and a frustration with some of its culinary constraints. We all work for the University of Michigan Library. We all grew up near Rust Belt cities (Detroit, Pittsburgh and Buffalo). We all have spent a fair amount of time in New York City. Two of us have shady pasts in graduate study in English Literature. Two of us have partners who are in bands. Two of us are quite short. None of us can stay up quite as late as we used to. We have an equal appreciation for gourmet cusine and the freezer case at Trader Joe’s. Our differences will become clear to our readers over time.
This blog is a place to share our culinary joys and sorrows, our discoveries and explorations. It’s a place to capture our ongoing conversation about eating in Ann Arbor and elsewhere and to invite others to join in.
In our free time, we like to pose as superheroes wielding kitchen implements.
p.s., We owe a great deal of thanks to our friend and colleague Suzanne for the detail photos in the banner. Aren’t they lovely?

Love your blog…check out mine and would you add it to your blog roll?
insomniac i sometimes am, i started researching some favorite topics last night - high on my list, as always, cooking and dining out in ann arbor! oh boy! your blog is addictive!
i have a question. have any of you tried the monthly sparrow market dinners? i am part of a group that dines out each saturday in the ann arbor area and we are thinking of giving it a try. any advice?
Glad you’re enjoying the blog, Kay. And your dinner club–what fun! I attended a dinner at Sparrow in June, and the atmosphere was really convivial. The food was good, but not outstanding. You can bring your own wine (they’ll open it for you), and I recommend bringing a big group of people with you.
If you go to one, let us know how you liked it!
shana,
thanks so much for your response. we may try next month. read the menu and i am allergic to shrimp and another in the group can’t eat any legumes….. a large part of the jamiacan feast would be wasted on us! if we go i will definitely report. ciao! kay
ps: am sure you already know but the stella market on erie in windsor is a delight of great oils etc for way less than the american prices. also the wroclaw on walker road if you like polish and german specialties.
I didn’t happen to know about those markets, Kay. Thanks so much for passing along this info!

Hi G3:
I am planning a get-together for us food bloggers in the SE Michigan area. We are thinking about having a potluck for a Sunday afternoon High Tea at my place here in Ann Arbor.
We haven’t set a date yet - we’re thinking one Sunday in mid to late January 2008. Please let me know if you are interested (and any preferred dates/times) at my email holybasil(at)mail(dot)com. Looking forward to hearing from you.
Hi Ladies,
I’m a journalist. I’d love to chat with you all for a minute…thanks.
