Here are some things that are inspiring me this weekend:
- Enjoying reading the special food issue of the New Yorker (11/24/2008) and Jamie Oliver’s new cookbook
- Making and eating these molasses-chocolate-ginger cookies
- Gearing up to make Texas Beef Brisket Chili
- I can’t seem to stop listening to this song as I work in the kitchen lately (and really wishing I could dance like that. These folks have figured it out.)
- Doing a bit of food-geeking-out on Cookstr
- Exploring new (to me) Michigan food blogs, like fast grow the weeds
- Reminiscing about the summer market:
- Marveling at the seasonal bounty from our Thanksgiving share (many dozens of pounds worth), and at what was on view at the market this morning
What has been inspiring you?
Beef brisket is on sale at Hiller’s – I almost bought some, but I’ve got enough cooking projects to do this week with Thanksgiving coming up. Please tell me more about the other Michigan food blogs you’re finding…I am trying to put a list together.
Thanksgiving in general inspires me. I have done an “orphan Tgiving” the past two years and have had a blast. I love this holiday because it’s for all of us Americans. 🙂
MK — Thanks for the tip on the sale. Next time, I will need to identify a cheaper source for my brisket.
Some others I’ve found are:

TP — that sounds v nice!
You know, we’ve been listening to that tune too, but this is the version we’ve been watching:
Maria and Shana… I am trying really hard, and rather unsuccessfully, not to be obsessed with both versions! of that video. Its especially difficult after a dancy weekend in Miami Beach! (Where, as an aside, I did hit Joe’s Stone Crab, yumm, and a delic Nuevo Latino place called Ola, in addition to a fantastic Cuban diner Puerto Sagua… wish I had remembered to re-read your post from last year before I went, Maria!)
Yes, both versions have been on the youtube-waves chez moi. They both have their virtues, but I’m leaning slightly toward the classic version. So much sexy-Beyonce-dance-energy to harness there.
Thanks, Claire, for taking a moment away from basking in the sun and eating delicious seafood and chillaxing in FL to check in with us here in snowy, 30 degree Michigan.
Well, this was an interesting post, and here’s my two cent comments…
This was a somewhat sad piece, but she’ll continue blogging…I love the quote “What does it look like, what does it taste like, and what’s it about…”
(oh, and I guess she’s a U-M grad)
This video has been inspiring me: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fMUedRUJ_HA (the whole CD is good)
Hey Shana (Maria and Anne too),
Thanks for the mention! I’ve been reading through your posts and I SO wish we were all neighbors. The three of you sound so much like a former me: a city me who was absolutely hep on all that was new, good and edible in my city living, gardening, CSA-subscribing world. (Transplant me to the country and look what happens: no hep places to eat, shop or subscribe to so one needs to D.I.Y.!)
Anyway, I do look forward to reading more of you and getting inspired by the goodness found here. Bon appetit!

Umami — that piece IS sad. I spent some time yesterday reading articles on her site, Insatiable Critic, and I adore her writing. Here’s hoping that her blog will bring her other food-writing work.
Thanks for checking in, El! I too wish we were neighbors. I could learn a thing or three from you about the DIY life!
